About the Event
What is Collabothon about?

Commerzbank AG together with partners Google, O'Reilly, ZOO in Łódź (Orientarium) and City of Łódź welcome you to the Collabothon 2022. Event takes place from 13th to 15th July in Łódź in hybrid formula - you can decide how you want to participate: from your desk at home or together with us in the ZOO. We are looking forward to developing innovative, cross-industry solutions together during the hackathon and we are already excited to learn all about your ideas.

Within only 48 hours you will make your vision of the future come to reality by developing your own prototype from scratch and pitching it afterwards to the crowd - no powerpoint, we want to see real demos. There will be several well-known APIs available, plus food and drinks, amazing people and of course, some prizes! We are waiting for you. :)

Main theme - URBAN JUNGLE

This year's edition is Urban Jungle. It's a great wordplay that represents the place where technology and nature meet together. This is space where Commerzbank dives deeply by creating IT solutions to support our Planet. We care about ecology and nature - sustainability is one of our corporate values. According to this, we are a part of the world of advanced technology and with this theme, we try to connect us to the natural environment - with the world of endangered species. How do we want to achieve it? We will start by putting programmers directly to the ZOO, literally. Please tell us, have you ever spent a night in ZOO? ;)

Who can participate?

Everyone! Are you a student? Go for it! Are you professional? Wonderful! The experience here is not the main factor. We are looking for creative drive, brilliant ideas and unconventional solutions that support our planet and urban environment... Sounds familiar? Then, feel more than welcome to join!

Challenges

O'Reilly Challenge

The nature of the workforce is changing, whether it is becoming more hyperconnected, working remotely or connecting primarily through video. Organizations globally are finding it difficult to source the right technical and engineering talent, and are upskilling and reskilling their existing workforce to match their needs. Please have a look through some of the attached resources provided by O'Reilly's thought leaders: link. Propose a solution for ensuring that employees in your organization can find the right opportunities for reskilling into technical or engineering roles, and have the right resources and network to help them on that journey.

Commerzbank Challenge

Let's jump from the #urbanjungle to the sustainable #smartcity! Commuting through the urban jungle, planning and optimizing the trips, and finding the easiest way with the most convenient and eco-friendly means of transportation could be a real drudgery. To address all these needs, cities provide a wide range of solutions - parking lots serviced by the application, city bikes and scooters, and integrated public transport. Propose a new solution to improve transport in the cities or make the existing ones work in synergy to make it more friendly to both city inhabitants and the natural environment (take into consideration the carbon footprint issue).

ZOO Challenge

The earth is home to countless species and we all should envision a world where wildlife and humans flourish together. Our ZOOs dedicate themselves to save wildlife and their habitats through conservation, research, education, and engaging experiences. In all of this, ZOOs are a complex institutions involving lots of processes, data, and human resources. Propose a solution that might help ZOOs to connect people to animals and inspire conservation action to save endangered species. Feel free to use the generally available APIs and data delivered by Łódź ZOO.

Google Challenge

The Russian invasion of Ukraine is a tragedy not just for now but for generations to come. As the international community response evolves, we’ve continued to look for ways to help and support humanitarian efforts. Already more than 3.7 million refugees have fled Ukraine looking for safety and new place for living in foreign cities. After a few months in Poland, they are still facing challenges in their day-to-day activities. Help is continuously needed in e.g. providing psychological support, searching for kindergartens, sports clubs for children, or specialized medical care. In this challenge, we would invite you to build a solution that will solve one of the everyday problems. Be empathic and be creative, good luck!

FAQ

Why is the event called Collabothon?

The event aims to facilitate collaborations across different industries, inspiring each other to explore, transform, and exploit cross-industry knowledge to create and develop innovative solutions. Thus, the teams consist of a mix of employees of corporations, start-ups, and scientific institutions, as well as other individuals such as coder, entrepreneurs and FinTech Evangelists to foster the spirit of cross-industry collaboration.

When will the Collabothon take place?

We'd love to see you on 13th to 15th July – beginning from 9:00 am CET.

Where will the Collabothon take place?

This year we decided for hybrid formula. It would be great to have you on the spot, in Łódź and spend this time together with us in ZOO (Orientarium). But of course, there is also a possibility to take part online. We will provide all the IT tools to keep your collaboration smooth, but Teams will need to organize their workspace themselves.

Who can participate at the Collabothon?

We are looking for people who want to disrupt the borders between the financial industry and many others: Coders, Entrepreneurs, FinTech Evangelists, Ideation Stars, UX Superheroes, Data Fanatics and so on.

What will you be doing at the event?

You will develop innovative solutions that disrupt the borders between different industries. There will be several interesting challenges to take on that will be announced soon. Note: We expect everything you develop to be fresh code and Sherlock Holmes along with some other detectives will ensure this during the event.

How will the teams be arranged?

Your team could have 5-10 people. If your team is complete, skip this point. If not, team formation will take place before the event, on 9th and 10th July. Due to our cross-industry focus we will do our best to fit any single player into groups with members from different backgrounds and thereby foster cross-industry collaboration. Stay tuned, we will provide more information soon.
